Washington Colony Gets Solar Powered
Washington Colony Elementary School is pleased to announce its induction into the "PG&E Solar School Program." WCES was selected as one of only forty schools to participate in a joint venture between Pacific Gas and Electric, The Foundation for Environmental Education, The Thoreau Center for Sustainability, The NEED Project, and Solar City that provided funding for the installation of a PV (photovoltaic system) unit on the WCES campus. The grant program, offered by PG&E, was initiated by teacher Brad Showalter with the purpose of offering Washington Colony students and the surrounding Easton community a platform for education in solar science principles and alternative energy resources. The PV unit, which was completed on February 3, 2010, is expected to produce an out put of approximately 1KW (1,360 watts) of electricity and can be seen from the south east boarder of the WCES middle school campus.
